  • Former Arsenal and Barcelona player Thierry Henry has torn into Mohamed Salah after the Egyptian failed to match his pre-match talk against Real Madrid
  • Salah had promised that his Liverpool side will get their revenge after going down to the Spanish giants in the Champions League final four years ago
  • Henry slammed Salah for failing to live up to his promise insisting that players should only speak after getting their desired outcome in a match

Thierry Henry has criticized Mohamed Salah for his pre-match comments before the Champions League final. Salah was on record a couple of times expressing his desire to get revenge over Real Madrid.

This year’s final was a repeat of the 2018 final where Salah went off injured in the first half. Real Madrid went on to win 3-1, a result that left a sour taste on Salah’s mouth.

Speaking after beating Villarreal in the semi-finals to book a place in the final, Salah was asked which team he’d prefer to face in the final between Real Madrid and Manchester City. The prolific forward bullishly said he’d rather have the Spanish champions to exact his revenge.

His wish was granted but he wasn’t able to match his comments. His team’s constant efforts on goal were constantly rebuffed by an inspired Thibaut Courtois in the Madrid goal. And just like in 2018, Salah and Liverpool went down to Real Madrid again.

The Mirror reports that former Arsenal and Barcelona legend Thierry Henry picked Salah apart after the final.

We have said it so many times, it’s about putting the ball into the back of the net. Real Madrid had only one on target and they score.
Liverpool had a lot. But they faced Thibaut Courtois. Remember what I said in the semi-final, people don’t give him enough credit he deserves. I always say something, don’t talk before a final. Beat Real Madrid, then talk and say it was revenge and all that. When you talk before a final, you have to win it.

Salah was on the receiving end of Courtois's heroics as he saw two of his greatest chances parried away by the former Chelsea man. The tall Belgian also pushed a ferocious Sadio Mane attempt to the post. His performance earned him the man-of-the-match award.

Arsene Wenger blames Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah for Liverpool's defeat

Sports Brief had earlier reported that Arsene Wenger had appeared to blame the duo of Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane after Liverpool's disappointing Champions League defeat to Real Madrid on Saturday night, May 28.

The Reds fell short in their revenge mission against the La Liga giants as Vinicius Jr's goal denied them a chance to lift the European title.

Thibaut Courtois, who produced a man-of-the-match performance denied the duo before Real Madrid found the back of the net with their first shot on target of the game through Vinicius Jr.
