African champions, Senegal have sealed qualification to the FIFA World Cup in Qatar after defeating old foes Egypt on penalties.

Having lost the first leg in Cairo 1-0, the Teranga Lions wasted no time in leveling the tie after Boulaye Dia's 4th minute strike.

In a video posted on Twitter, Senegal players could not hide their excitement as they completed a double of success over the seven times African champions.

Senegal were at the World Cup in Russia 2018, where they exited the tournament at the group stage.

However, they will want to replicate the achievement of the 2002 team by reaching the quarter finals of the global showpiece.

Senegal joins Ghana, Tunisia, Morocco and Cameroon as Africa's five representatives for the World Cup in Qatar.

Senegal beat Egypt to qualify for World Cup

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Liverpool star Sadio Mane converted a shoot-out penalty on Tuesday to take African champions Senegal to the 2022 World Cup in Qatar at the expense of Egypt.

Ghana, Morocco and Tunisia also booked their places in the finals on a frantic night of play-off action.

Senegal won the second leg of the African play-off 1-0 in Diamniadio thanks to a fourth-minute goal from Boulaye Dia and the teams finished level at 1-1 on aggregate after extra time.

Morocco joins Senegal, Ghana, Tunisia and Cameroon to qualify for World Cup

Morocco made light work of their World Cup play-off opponent DR Congo to seal a spot at Qatar 2022, joining Ghana and Senegal as representatives from the continent.

A strong display by the Atlas Lions saw them score two goals at either side of half time to stroll past DR Congo 4-1 at the Mohammed V stadium.

The North Africans qualified 5-2 on aggregate after the two-legged game.
