Manchester City could face off with arch rivals Liverpool four times in a matter of 12 days in what could be an epic battle for silverware between the two sides.

The Premier League title race is already proving to be an enthralling affair this year, and Manchester City’s defeat to Tottenham on Saturday, February 19 made things more interesting.

Pep Guardiola’s side now find themselves only six points clear of Liverpool, who have a game in hand.

The two sides will meet in the Premier League in what many fans tip to be the title decider on April 9, but a lot can happen between now and then.

In the meantime, there are still routes to the two giants of European football to meet, albeit via different competitions.

Champions League

Man City are all but through to the quarter finals of the competition, thanks to a comprehensive 5-0 first leg win over Sporting Lisbon in the round of 16.

Liverpool also placed themselves in pole position to qualify for the last 16 as they saw off Inter Milan 2-0 at the San Siro.

If both sides advance to the last 8 of the competition, they could potentially be drawn against each other in the quarter finals, scheduled to take place on April 5/6 and 12/13.

It would not be a huge surprise if City draw Liverpool in the quarter finals of the Champions League as it has happened before – in 2018.

UEFA has a rule that establishes that no teams from the same country can match up in the Round of 16, but after that stage, any two sides still in the competition can be drawn against each other.

FA Cup

This is another competition which the two teams can meet up as they are both favourites to proceed to the latter stages of the competition.

City face Peterborough in the fifth round on March 1, while Liverpool will host Norwich City in the competition a day later.

There is a chance the two giants could meet in the semifinal of the FA Cup, which will take place in the weekend of April 16/17.

“Title race open”

In related news, Sports Brief reported that Guardiola admitted that the title race was still on, particularly after the Tottenham defeat.

The thrilling Saturday, February 20, clash looked set for a 2-2 draw before a magical moment from Harry Kane saw Spurs earn a shock win at Etihad Stadium.

"I never said the title race was over. It's normal. In January and February the teams at the bottom won their games because everyone fights for everything. It will be difficult. We know it," the Spaniard said as quoted by Mirror UK.
