FootballPSL Denies Kaizer Chiefs' Postponement Request, Dividing Mzansi on Social Media
- The Premier Soccer League dismissed Kaizer Chiefs' requests to have its matches postponed in December
- This came after the Amakhosi experienced a Covid-19 outbreak, which forced many players and staff into isolation
- Some on social media believed that this was unfair, but most believed that the Phefeni Glamour Boys had to grin and bear it
The Premier Soccer League (PSL) has denied Kaizer Chiefs’ request to have all their matches in December postponed.
This was after the Naturena-based side was struck by a Covid-19 outbreak at the beginning of the month, which made dozens of players and non-playing personnel unavailable. The decision is somewhat academic, as Chiefs have since played two matches since it made the request.
In a statement released to the press and by social media to the public, the PSL reasoned that the Amakhosi were afforded the opportunity to provide information in support of the request.
The statement concluded:
“Having exhaustively considered all aspects of the matter, and the information provided, the Executive Committee today resolved that Kaizer Chiefs has not established a basis to reverse the decision of the Football Department.”
The club had not yet commented on this setback. However, this turn of events drew a mixed response from the public.
Tshepo Maimane said on Facebook:
"Our League is a joke , even though their decision went against Kaizer Chiefs request I'm happy that for once they communicate one and not wait for the end of the season like they always do regarding serious matters of urgency. They are not saying anything about the 2 games missed by the Club."
@TeejayMthembu said on Twitter:
"Stop fooling yourself. No team in the EPL requested for postponement. EPL received a medical report from clubs with Covid stats and the EPL itself saw it fit to postpone the matches. Chiefs thought they are kings. It doesn't work like that any more."

FootballFIFA President Infantino wants 2021 AFCON postponed as big and stunning reason emerges
Gianni Infantino, president of the world's football governing body FIFA, has reportedly backed the move for the 2021 African Cup of Nations in Cameroon to be postponed.
As reported by Sports Brief, African nations are currently in top gear, preparing for the continent's biggest tournament where Algeria will defend their title, having defeated Senegal in 2019.
There have been talks of postponing the tournament for the third time as some European clubs are not happy about releasing their players for the event.
