FootballDStv Premiership: Kaizer Chiefs Accepts That League Title Is Over, Sets Stuart Baxter Top 3 Target
- Kaizer Chiefs has finally thrown in the towel when it comes to the 2021/22 DStv Premiership title races
- Already certain of going a seventh consecutive season without a trophy, the Amakhosi are nearly 20 points behind log leaders Mamelodi Sundowns
- With the writing on the wall, the club is now aiming a little lower, targeting a top-three finish on the table
Kaizer Chiefs has finally accepted what everyone else knew in that Mamelodi Sundowns will win its fifth consecutive DStv Premiership title.
The Amakhosi are 19 points behind the runaway log leaders, and it would take a monumental collapse for anyone else to catch up to them. With this in mind, Chiefs management has adjusted its goals for the remainder of the season.
Goal.com quoted the club's marketing director Jessica Motaung saying:
“We would love to finish the season in the top three, and we will use the remaining games to build for next season and take it to the next level. The challenges are part of the journey, and we are going through challenges. It is a journey that we need to travel."
It has not been a pleasant start to the second half of the season for the senior team. It was knocked out of the Nedbank Cup by nemesis TS Galaxy 1-0, before playing out a drab 0-0 draw against Cape Town City in the DStv Premiership.
A fed-up Kaizer Chiefs fans created a Change.org petition demanding the firing of coach Stuart Baxter, among many other cmplaints. The petition met its 7 500 signatory target on the same day it was made public.
Amazingly, Motaung acknowledged the petition according to IOL, saying that club would "heed to the grievances and make the necessary changes".

FootballAs reported by Sports Brief, the Namibian has been nothing short of deadly for Mamelodi Sundowns this season. Shalulile has scored 17 goals in 29 goals across all competitions, including a league-leading 13 in the DStv Premiership.
Mphela suggested Chiefs show the same kind of scouting knowledge that helped them land Zambian forward Collins Mbesuma nearly 20 years ago, who had a record-breaking run with the Amakhosi.
