  • Chelsea loanee Romelu Lukaku is not afraid of airing his unflinching love for Inter Milan despite having three seasons left on his contract with the English side
  • The Belgian striker believes his homecoming to Chelsea was the biggest mistake in his football career
  • Lukaku scored a paltry 15 goals in 43 appearances for the Blues in all competitions before he was shipped out on loan to Inter Milan

Romelu Lukaku has confessed that the worst mistake of his football career was leaving Inter Milan for Chelsea last season.

The 29-year-old swapped Inter Milan for Chelsea in a deal worth £97.5million last season. However, the Belgian international rued his return to the Premier League and apologized to the fans of Inter Milan.

He has been shipped out on loan to Inter and the former Manchester United player is poised to redeem himself at his old stomping grounds.

“Now I am happy to be wearing this jersey, the team knows what we need to do, it’ll be a great challenge this season and we need to continue like this."

Lukaku, who scored 15 goals in 43 appearances in all competitions on his homecoming last season, has not shied away from making the world know where his heart lies.

“I realised last season when I was in England, just how important Inter are in the world. The club’s profile is improving on an international scale, the social media approach is really important too and you can see how we act in the locker room, in training, our hugs and jokes.
“Milan is a wonderful city and that is why I kept the old apartment when I went to London because my mother was coming here all the time and I wanted to return too.”

Chelsea coach Thomas Tuchel says Lukaku's return is unlikely

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel has painted a grim picture about the return of Romelu Lukaku to Stamford Bridge.

The Belgian forward made a return to Chelsea amid much pomp and pageantry after a successful stint with Inter Milan, helping the Milan club to end their decade-long Serie A drought.

Lukaku's big money return to Chelsea has so far failed to yield the expected dividends, with the former Manchester United striker struggling to break into Tuchel's starting lineup.
