Former Fulham and West Ham defender, John Paintsil broke down in uncontrollable tears after arriving at the State House for Christian Atsu's funeral.

The ex-Ghana international was teammates with the winger at the national team, where the duo created memories together.

However, on February 18, Ghanaians were left in a state of shock after Atsu's lifeless body was recovered from the rubble of his collapsed apartment.

In a video shared on social media, Paintsil is seen shedding tears as he struggles to contain himself in the moment.

Atsu's will be buried later on Friday in his hometown in Doghombe.

The former Newcastle United and Chelsea player enjoyed a successful career, playing in Europe for several clubs.

He was also a national star, having made 65 appearances and scored nine goals for the national team of Ghana.

Atsu shot to prominence after winning the Player of the Tournament at the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations as Ghana reached the final, losing to Ivory Coast on penalties.

Sulley Muntari breaks down in tears

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Former Ghana international, Sulley Muntari could not hold back the tears during the one-week observation of the late Christian Atsu.

The ex-Black Stars man had to be consoled by former Ghana goalkeeper, Richard Kingson as he struggled to hide his emotions.

Several ex-footballers and teammates of the former Chelsea and Newcastle United winger arrived at the Ajiringanor School park to pay respects to Atsu before his final funeral on March 17.

Atsu to be buried on March 17

The date and venue for the final funeral rites of the late Ghanaian footballer Christian Atsu have been announced by the Twasam family.

The announcement was made at the one-week observance of Atsu, who sadly passed away on February 18 following the devastating quake which hit Turkey and Syria.

Atsu's body was found under the rubble at his home in Antakya, South Turkey, after several days of search, per Al Jazeera.
