Date and Venue for Christian Atsu’s Final Funeral Rites Revealed

The date and venue for the final funeral rites of the late Ghanaian footballer Christian Atsu have been announced by the Twasam family.

The announcement was made at the one-week observance of Atsu, who sadly passed away on February 18 following the devastating quake which hit Turkey and Syria.

Atsu's body was found under the rubble at his home in Antakya, South Turkey, after several days of search, per Al Jazeera.

Joy News reports that following his achievements with the Ghana men's football national team, interlaced with his heartwarming social interventions, Atsu will be given a state burial.

Where and when will Atsu be buried?

He will be buried on Friday, March 17, at the Forecourt of the State House in Accra, Ghana.

Apparently, Atsu’s funeral will be held six days before the Black Stars’ 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Angola at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium on March 23.

Ex-Ghana players mourn with Atsu's family

Earlier, Stephen Appiah and Kwadwo Asamoah were among some former Black Stars players to visit the family house of Christian Atsu on February 22 to commiserate.

The Black Stars duo visited along with former Ghana international Rabiu Mohammed, Derek Boateng and Jerry Akaminko to mourn the passing of their ex-teammate.

The players were at the family home of the Ghana international to show support following his passing due to the earthquake which struck Turkey and Syria.

Atsu's twin sister in uncontrollable tears

Christian Atsu's twin sister, Christiana Atsupie Twasam, could not hold back her tears as she continues to mourn her brother's sad passing, Sports Brief reported.

Atsu was confirmed dead on Saturday, February 18, after his body was found under the rubble following the devastating quake which struck Turkey and Syria.

The former Chelsea and Newcastle United winger met his heartbreaking death after he scored a last gasp freekick to lift Hatayspor from the relegation drop zone.
