  • Ex-Black Stars trainer Kwesi Appiah has cautioned prospective Black Stars coaches about the demanding nature of the job
  • The Black Stars are currently in search of a substantive coach with ex-Ghana international Otto Addo favorites to land the job
  • But the soft-spoken coach in an advise to Addo and other aspirants of the Black Stars job believes the pressure associated with the national team if not managed well can kill the one in charge of the team

Former head coach of Ghana, James Kwesi Appiah has advised aspirants for the Black Stars coaching role to be wary of the pressure associated with the national team.

The 61-year-old tactician who had two different spells with the Black Stars believes the pressure associated with the job can cause the death of the one at the helm of affairs.

He made this revelation in an interview where he narrated that during his stint with the Black Stars, he had divided attention due to the demanding nature of the job.

"When I used to be up there, as I am sitting with you now chatting my mind will be somewhere else. You don't get the time to concentrate on the things around you."
"You are always planning tactics and how to beat an opponent. It's not something I will advise someone to get there" Kwasi Appiah told Untold Stories TV Gh as quoted by Ghanaweb.

Appiah wrote his name in Ghanaian football folklore when he became the first indigenous coach to qualify the Black Stars for the 2014 World Cup but he reckons the pressure associated with the job is unbearable.

"People sometimes think the National team is easy and they can just walk in there, the pressure in it is not advisable."
"There are so many pressures you deal with at the National team level; some with the GFA, clubs, agents, the players themselves coming with their egos and so if you don't take a break and you want to stay under this pressure, you will die." He ended.

Asamoah Gyan aims a sly dig at Kwesi Appiah

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that former Ghana captain Asamoah Gyan has reacted furiously to former coach Kwesi Appiah's comments to the 2014 Commission of Enquiry four years ago after the team's shameful and disastrous performance in Brazil.

A Commission of Enquiry was set after Ghana's early exit from the tournament when players of the Black Stars nearly boycotted the final game against Portugal because their appearance fees were not paid.

During Kwesi Appiah's submission to the Commission, he revealed the Black Stars were not concentrating because they had monies in their bags while on the pitch.
