Former Ghana international Yaw Preko has cautioned that players who want to play in the 2022 World Cup must be ready to play in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
The Black Stars are making a return to the World Cup after qualifying at the expense of Nigeria in the play-offs.
The Ghana Football Association has been in talks with certain players in an attempt to convince them to play for the Black Stars following Ghana's qualification to the Mundial.
The likes of Southampton's Mohammed Salisu, Callum Hudson-Odoi of Chelsea and Bristol City's Antoine Semenyo have been named to switch nationality and play for the Black Stars.
And Yaw Preko, who played for Belgian giants Anderlecht between 1992 and 1997, opined that Ghanaian players in the diaspora who want to join the Black Stars' World Cup squad should be prepared to play the AFCON qualifiers.
“We’ve been linked with a lot of players. Those who want to go to the World Cup should be willing to play in the qualifiers. They should send them to the Central African Republic, Angola, and Madagascar," Preko told Peace FM, via Modern Ghana.
"They want to play at the World Cup but we also need the AFCON and we must qualify first. We can use the qualifiers as preparations for the World Cup.
“Let’s identify the talent we will send to the World Cup and use the qualifiers to prepare them for World Cup.
