Ghana international Mohammed Kudus was left red-faced as Ajax Amsterdam threw away an early lead to lose 2-1 to bitter rivals PSV Eindhoven in the KNVB Beker Cup final.

The 21-year-old attacker was thrown into the thick of affairs in the twilight of the clash.

But his introduction proved to be a case of much ado about nothing as PSV held on to clinch the Dutch Cup for the first time since 2012.

It was Ajax who broke the deadlock after 23 minutes through Bayern Munich target Ryan Gravenberch and they threatened to pull clear only for the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) to pull them back after ruling out a goal by Noussair Mazraoui for offside.

A resurgent PSV side leveled the score and took the lead in a space of two minutes at the start of the second half to complete the fightback.

Ajax will draw parity in the 57th minute but will be denied once again by the VAR when Davy Klaassen's goal was chopped off for offside.

Ajax coach Erik Ten Haag, who had been widely linked to Manchester United, reshuffled his cards as he introduced Mohammed Ihattaren and Kudus in a double substitution.

His changes failed to yield the dividends he had hoped off as PSV held on to clinch their first Dutch Cup in ten years.

Kudus climbs off the bench to help Ajax seal dramatic win

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Ghana international Mohammed Kudus played a bit-part role for Ajax as the Amsterdam-based club recorded a 3-2 win against Cambuur.

Goals from Ivorian striker Sebastian Haller and skipper Dusan Tadic were neutralized by strikes from Sierra Leone international Issa Kallon and Patrick Joosten.

However, Dutch midfielder Ryan Gravenberch had the last laugh as he put a dagger in the heart of the home side as Ajax claimed the maximum three points at stake. Read more:
