FootballBlack Stars Forward Hints at Possible Retirement When He Plays Against Ronaldo at the World Cup
- Emmanuel Gyasi may just announce his premature retirement from football should he meet Ronaldo at the forthcoming FIFA World Cup
- Gyasi, who has not hidden his admiration of the Portuguese superstar, is relishing the opportunity of playing against the Manchester United forward for the second time in his career
- He has been a conspicuous absentee from the Black Stars squad in recent call-ups and will have to dig deep to court the interest of the technical handlers of the national team
Black Stars and Spezia forward Emmanuel Gyasi relishes a meet-up with Portugal captain Cristiano Ronaldo at the 2022 FIFA World Cup and has suggested he might retire should his dreams materialize.
Gyasi had previously met Ronaldo when Spezia crossed swords with Juventus in the Italian Serie A but the Italian-born Ghana international is relishing another of such moments with the Portuguese.
The 28-year-old has previously disclosed he idolizes the former Real Madrid icon and with Ghana pitted against Ronaldo's Portugal at the 2022 Mundial, he might just have a second opportunity to meet Cristiano.
With Ghana's clash against Portugal a certainty bar any unforeseen circumstance, Gyasi will have to work his socks off to make Ghana's roster for the global showpiece due to his roaring absence from the national team.
He was left out of Ghana's AFCON squad and was recently snubbed for the doubleheader against Nigeria.
"If I get the call-up, it would be a beautiful moment,” Gyasi told GOAL.
He continued: “I dreamt of playing against him [Ronaldo] in Serie A and we had a good conversation, so if we meet again at the World Cup, I don't know - I could stop playing football and retire happy!
"That [to meet Ronaldo again at the World Cup] is the dream!" He ended.
Gyasi earned his first call-up to the Black Stars in an Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against South Africa - which ended 1-1.
