Ghana's flag has finally been hoisted in Qatar ahead of the upcoming FIFA World Cup in the Asian country later this year.

In a short ceremony in Doha, Dr Emmanuel Enos, Ghana's Ambassador to Qatar raised the flag of Ghana aloft, indicating the West African country's qualification.

In a video posted on Twitter, spotted by Sports Brief, members from the Ghanaian community sang the national anthem as the flag was being raised.

The flag-raising activity ceremony is done for countries that have qualified for the tournament slated for November 2022.

In last few days, several flags have been hoisted, including that of Canada who are making a return to the tournament for the first time in 36 years.

Uruguay, Saudi Arabia, Brazil and Argentina have all had their flags raised as preparations for the global showpiece intensifies.

Ghana qualified for the World Cup after urging Nigeria on the away goal rule in Abuja. Thomas Partey scored the goal, which confirmed Ghana's return to the World Cup.

John Painstil believes Ghana can win the World Cup

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that John Painstil, a member of the 2010 Black Stars team that reached the quarter finals of the World Cup in South Africa, is confident the current team can make Ghana proud at the global showpiece.

The Black Stars qualified for another World Cup after urging the Super Eagles of Nigeria in a two-legged play-off. Ghana sealed qualification on the away goal rule.

Ex-Ghana right-back John Painstil, who was working as an analyst on SuperSport for the game on Tuesday, expressed delight in the Black Stars' qualification saying the team when kept together can win the World Cup.
