  • Black Stars Management Committee chairman Mark Addo has opened up on the exclusion of Asante Kotoko goalkeeper Ibrahim Danlad from coach Otto Addo's squad
  • Danlad has been impressive since replacing Razak Abalora as the safest pair of hands for Asante Kotoko
  • Meanwhile, the Black Stars have arrived in Kumasi as part of preparations for their crucial World Cup play-offs against the Super Eagles of Nigeria

Vice president of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Mark Addo has thrown light on the exclusion of Ibrahim Danlad from the Black Stars squad.

The young custodian has mustered eight clean sheets and conceded only four goals in 11 outings for the Porcupine Warriors.

His superlative performances for the current Ghana Premier League leaders has sparked several calls for his inclusion in the Black Stars squad, especially since Ghana will be hosting Nigeria at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium - the home grounds of Asante Kotoko.

However, the U20 AFCON winner has been snubbed by the Black Stars coach opting for Orlando Pirates' shot-stopper Richard Ofori, Jojo Wollacott of Swindon Town, St Gallen's Lawrence Ati-Zigi and Belgium-based Abdul Manaf Nurudeen as he named his 27-man squad earlier today.

Reacting to the absence of Danlad from the squad to face Nigeria, Mark Addo, who doubles as the Black Stars Management Committee Chairman, acknowledged Danlad has been monitored by the technical team and might be considered for future call-ups.

"The coaches have looked at his [Danlad] tapes, they know his strength and weaknesses and have compared him to all the goalkeepers called for Nigeria clash. These are only two games and I am sure they will continue to monitor and he will have his opportunity. I am not speaking for the coaches but every decision taken is based on information available to them." He told Kessben FM as quoted by Football Ghana.

Mark Addo rallied for support for the Black Stars ahead of the tough battle with Nigeria despite the absence of Ibrahim Danlad.

"Let's just support the team," he concluded.

Asante Kotoko head coach tips Danlad for Black Stars call-up

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that head coach of Asante Kotoko Prosper Narteh Ogum has intimated young goalkeeper Ibrahim Danlad is ready for a call-up to the Black Stars.

The goalkeeping department of the four-time African champions has come under scrutiny following the below-par performance by current No.1 Jojo Wollacott.

Many suggestions have trickled in, especially as Ghana's crucial FIFA World Cup play-off against West African neighbours Nigeria draws closer.
