Ex-Ghana midfielder Otto Addo to be confirmed as new Black Stars coach

  • GFA president Kurt Okraku met the former Black Stars midfielder in Germany on Monday and he’s agreed to take the job.

Former Ghana midfielder Otto Addo has agreed a two-year deal to become the new coach Ghana's senior national team, Black Stars.

Addo's imminent appointment as successor to Milovan Rajevac, who was sacked on after Ghana's abysmal performance ta the 2021 African Cup of Nations, comes about after talks with Ghana FA officials in Germany.

The former Dortmund winger was offered the job after impressing the Ghana FA executives and is set to bring Ibrahim Tanko with him, as his assistant.

Official confirmation of Otto Addo’s appointment as Ghana head coach is expected shortly.

Addo is currently the Assistant coach for the Black Stars and Borussia Dortmund.

He previously held roles as the youth coach at Hamburg and the talent development coach at Dortmund and Mochengladbach.

The former Black Stars player eyes for developing talent suit the current crop of players in the Senior National Team. The Black Stars assembled averagely the second youngest team in the 2021 AFCON.

He’s overseen the development of high profile players such as Jason Sancho, Jude Bellingham and Erling Halaand among others.

Ghana FA ExCO member backs Otto Addo for Black Stars coaching role

Ghana Football Association (GFA) executive committee member Dr. Tony Aubynn has thrown his support behind Otto Addo to become the new Ghana coach.

The Black Stars are in the hunt for a new manager following their abysmal performance in the 2022 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) which cost coach Milovan Rajevac his job.

Addo was part of Milovan Rajevac's technical team as one of two deputies, with the other being Maxwell Konadu.
