Metro UK reports that Chelsea have offered Kante a three-year deal which includes an initial two-year deal with the possibility of a further year. The Frenchman, however, wants at least four years.
Constant injuries will be a major drawback for Kante to convince Chelsea's ownership of a better deal. He has been sidelined with injuries for the last two years combined, than he has been out in his entire career.
Kante is still one of the best players in his position
On his day, he remains Chelsea's best player. His skills were evident in Chelsea's runup to the Champions League triumph in 2021, where he collected three consecutive man-of-the-match awards from the semifinals.
His best game this season was against Tottenham Hotspur at Stamford Bridge before picking up his latest injury. The former Leicester City man will be encouraged by the fact that Chelsea gave Kalidou Koulibaly a four-year contract. Koulibaly is the same age as Kante, 31 years old.
Should Chelsea fail to resolve the impasses before January 1st, their best-paid player will be at liberty to sign a pre-contract agreement with foreign clubs.

FootballEdouard Mendy has also rejected Chelsea's first offer for a new contract
Sports Brief had earlier reported that trouble could be brewing at Chelsea after first-choice goalkeeper Edouard Mendy rejected the first offer from the club for an improved deal.
Mendy is said to be holding out for a better deal from the club. The new deal offered by the club will see him still earn less than what his number two Kepa Arrizabalaga earns.
Mendy is one of Chelsea's lowest earners, having joined the club from Rennes in 2020. He went on to establish himself as a regular between the sticks, helping Chelsea to the Champions League title in 2021.
