  • Thomas Tuchel has fired a straight warning to Timo Werner after the striker hinted at a Chelsea exit
  • Werner signed for Chelsea for £47.5million in 2020 but has struggled to hit top gear
  • He was unavailable for Chelsea’s pre season game against Charlotte due to injury

Thomas Tuchel has warned Timo Werner that the striker should be ‘grateful’ playing for Chelsea, days after the striker hinted he was unhappy at the club.

Werner spoke on Monday, July 18 where he dropped a subtle hint about his future at Stamford Bridge.

With the arrival of Raheem Sterling from Manchester City, Werner has been linked with a move away from Chelsea, and he has one little to water down reports surrounding his future.

Werner sensationally claimed he 'could be happy everywhere' when asked about whether he was happy at Chelsea.

In a rejoinder, Tuchel has now expressed his dismay at his striker’s recent comments.

“I'm surprised, I would be very happy as a young guy having a contract at Chelsea football club. I would be one of the happiest people on the planet,' the manager said as quoted on Daily Mail.
“He needs to get his game time. He has to show quality, take your place and defend your place.
“I would be one of the happiest people on the planet having a contract with Chelsea. If he said this, I do not understand.”

Werner did not feature in the game against Charlotte, as the German is nursing a hamstring injury, according to reports.

Werner’s future at Chelsea

In recent weeks, the striker has been rumored to be part of a deal to bring Matthijs de Light to Stamford Bridge.

He scored the first goal for Chelsea under new ownership and later said he was yet to have talks with Thomas Tuchel over his future.

It is hard to say,' he said on Monday when asked if clear-the-air talks were needed.
“First of all, the most important thing is that I am happy. I am happy when I play and score goals. That's the fact. That's what I should take care of and the other things will come.” Werner said on Monday when asked whether he had clear the air talks with his manager.

Gallagher’s funny penalty miss

On Wednesday, Conor Gallagher was the subject of fan scrutiny following his feeble Panenka penalty during Chelsea's pre-season preparatory game against MLS side Charlotte FC.

Christian Pulisic's first-half strike was cancelled by a last-gasp penalty to send the game to shootouts.

Kai Havertz and Ben Chilwell beautifully dispatched their penalties before Gallagher, a second-half substitute for Kovacic, stepped up for Chelsea's third penalty.

His effort left fans shell-shocked after his weak Panenka penalty gently crept into the waiting arms of the Charlotte FC goalkeeper.
