  • Willian and his family are reportedly living in fear after receiving death threats in recent days
  • The threats began after Willian’s club Corinthians suffered a shock defeat in the CONMEBOL Libertadores
  • Several Corinthians players have received threats, including Willian, whose daughters are now scared of going to school

Former Arsenal and Chelsea star Willian’s family is reportedly living in fear following threats made on social media.

Willian ended his spell in Europe and is currently back in his native Brazil, where he plays form Corinthians.

One would expect Willian’s move back to Brazil to be blissful since he is closer to his family, but according to reports from ESPN, the family is seriously considering moving out of the country.

The threats intensified following Corinthians’ shock defeat to Bolivian side Always Ready in the CONMEBOL Libertadores.

The Sun further reports that several players were issued threats following the loss, including Willian.

The report further states that the situation is so poor that Willian’s two young daughters are afraid to go to school.

Security guards

Because of the scary situation, Willian has reportedly resorted to hiring security guards to accompany him to training sessions.

Astonishingly enough, the Brazilian is still willing to continue his spell with Corinthians, a side he joined last year when he left Arsenal.

However, nothing is guaranteed as a move away from Brazil is on the cards if his family continues to feel unsafe.

Willian made a name for himself as a Chelsea player, where he spent a successful stint from 2013-2020.

At Chelsea, he won two Premier League titles before securing a transfer to Arsenal, where he failed to impress under Mikel Arteta.

Harry Maguire’s bomb threat

Recently, Manchester United captain Harry Maguire was also subjected to an unfortunate incident as he had his safety threatened by unscrupulous fans following a poor run of form for his club.

In the wake of United’s 4-0 defeat to Liverpool, Maguire received a disturbing threat in his family home in Cheshire, and police had to be dispatched.

According to reports, Maguire received the threats via email on Wednesday, but there was no need for an evacuation.

Despite the threat, Maguire reportedly confided in friends that he will not let the actions of one "cowardly fan" force him out. A source said:
