Cape Town City made its move for CAF Champions League participation next season by climbing up to second on the DStv Premiership table.
They did so with a 2-0 victory in an end-to-end encounter against TS Galaxy at the DHL Stadium in Cape Town. Darwin Gonzalez opened the scoring in the 17 minute, before Mduduzi Mdantsane settled the match from the penalty spot in the 83rd match.
With Royal AM out of action this weekend, the Cityzens took a free run at second place on the log standings, reaching 48 points having played one more match than Thwihli Thwahla. Should the standings remain like this for the rest of the season, City will be South Africa's other representative in the continent's premier club competition.

FootballThe result was quite damaging for the Rockets. They remained dangerously mired in the relegation dogfight, sitting in 14th place on 26 points. This was two ahead of Moroka Swallows in 15th, a promotion/relegation mini-tournament position, and four ahead of Baroka FC in the automatic relegation placing of 16th.
Cape Town City will take on Amazulu next week Saturday. At the same time, TS Galaxy will host Marumo Gallants.
The lack of killer instinct in the DStv Premiership continued as the draws were the order of the day.
Amazulu and Sekhukhune United drew 0-0 in Durban. The goalless draw was a record-extending 41st of the season in what might prove to be the lowest-scoring of the Premier Soccer League era.
