De Ligt's clearance

PSG came close to breaking the game's deadlock before half-time after Bayern goalkeeper Yann Sommer made a sloppy error, per SportBIBLE.

The Swiss shot stopper was caught trying to dribble out of his own area after coming under pressure from PSG players.

Vitinha seized the opportunity from Sommer and fired a shot at the gaping Bayern net, only for De Ligt to scramble back in time to produce a 'monstrous' clearance off the line.

Bayern boss hails de Ligt

Bayern Munich manager Julian Nagelsmann has heaped praise on Matthijs de Ligt after his crucial clearance saved the Bavarians against Paris Saint-Germain in the UEFA Champions League quarter-final tie on Wednesday night.

The German giants recorded a 2-0 win over the Parisians at the Allianz Arena thanks to two second half goals from Cameroonian forward Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting and German winger Serge Gnabry to secure a spot in the last eight.

In his post-match analysis, Nagelsmann was quick to sing the praises of De Ligt for his game changing intervention.

Bayern dump PSG out of UCL

Sports Brief previously reported on PSG being unable to break the round-of-16 glass ceiling in the Champions League for a second season running.

Their European woes continued after a 2-0 loss to Bayern Munich, with goals from Choupo-Moting and Gnabry sealing the deal for the Germans.

The result has emphasised PSG's miseries in Europe, having exited the Champions League in the last-16 stages in five of the last seven seasons.
