Sadio Mane is now facing a race against time to be fit for the World Cup after Senegal head coach Aliou Cisse included him in his final 26-man shortlist.

Previous reports had initially ruled out Mane entirely after picking up a tendon injury during Bayern Munich's game against Werder Bremen.

Cisse has also called up his reliable old guard in Chelsea's duo Kalidou Koulibaly and Edouard Mendy, Everton's Idrissa Gana Gueye and Watford's Ismailia Sarr.

Nottingham Forest's Cheikhou Kouyate and Monaco's Krepin Diatta are also in the contingent. There is also a call-up to Villareal's Nicolas Jackson, who has been impressed this season in La Liga.

The African Champions open their campaign against the Netherlands on 21st November before facing Qatar on 25th November. The Teranga Lions will then wrap up their group stage campaign against Ecuador on November 29th.

Goalkeepers: Edouard Mendy, Seny Dieng, Alfred Gomis.

Defenders: Youssouf Sabaly, Kalidou Koulibaly, Abdou Diallo, Pape Abou Cisse, Formose Mendy, Fode Ballo-Toure, Ismail Jakobs.

Midfielders: Idrissa Gueye, Cheikhou Kouyate, Nampalys Mendy, Pape Gueye, Pape Sarr, Moustapha Name, Mamadou Loum, Krepin Diatta.

Forwards: Sadio Mane, Ismaila Sarr, Bamba Dieng, Boulaye Dia, Famara Diedhiou, Nicolas Jackson , Iliman Ndiaye.

England World Cup squad

Sports Brief had earlier reported that England head coach Gareth Southgate has finally announced his 26-man squad for the 2022 World Cup. The squad comprises top players predominantly from the Premier League, with Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford making the cut.

In the goalkeeping department, Arsenal's Aaron Ramsdale is in the team, but there was no place for Man United shot-stopper Dean Henderson.

Harry Maguire and Luke Shaw headline the defence, with Chelsea star Mason Mount and Borussia Dortmund's Jude Bellingham making the midfielders' shortlist.
