Peter Gulasci was the biggest villain for RB Leipzig as the Bundesliga giants were humiliated in front of their supporters by Shakhtar Donetsk on matchday 1 of the UEFA Champions League.

The Hungarian goalkeeper made a costly error that led to Shakhtar Donetsk’s first goal and the German side never recovered after that as they were thrashed 4-1 by the Ukrainians.

Mohamed Simakan made it 1-1 in the 57th minute, bringing RB Leipzig back into the tie but Maryan Shved restored Shakhtar Donetsk’s lead just a minute later.

Mykhailo Mudryk would further extend the Ukrainian’s lead to 3-1 in the 76th minute to silence the crowd at the Red Bull Arena and dash any hope of a comeback by the German side.

Burkina Faso forward, Lassina Franck Traore put the icing on the cake for Shakhtar Donetsk as he scored the fourth goal for the Ukrainian side to seal a memorable 4-1 away win.

Shakhtar has remained unbeaten since their domestic league resumed last month following Russia's invasion in February.

According to BBC, the Ukrainian side has already collected more points (3) and more goals (4) than they earned in the entirety of last season's group stages when they finished with two points and two goals.

Klinsmann tips RB Leipzig as major contender for the 2022/23 Bundesliga title

Earlier, Sports Brief reported RB Leipzig has been backed to cause a major upset in the 2022/23 Bundesliga campaign as they have been tipped to dethrone Bayern Munich as league champions by Jurgen Klinsmann.

Leipzig has endured a slow start to this campaign after two draws and one loss from their opening three games of the season, but that has not deterred the German legend from giving them an outside chance.

Klinsmann, who is a World Cup winner with Germany, believes RB Leipzig winning the DFB Pokal last season will be a motivating factor for them to challenge Bayern Munich for the title.
