  • Sergio Aguero suffered problems as the Argentine had to leave the match in the 41st minute, and was rushed to hospital
  • In the first half of the clash involving Barcelona and Alaves, Aguero went down on the pitch holding his chest
  • Barcelona later confirmed in a statement that the superstar had undergone tests on his cardiovascular system

Barcelona superstar Sergio Aguero had to be rushed to hospital for cardio examination after being substituted in the 41st minute during the La Liga clash against Alaves on Saturday, October 30.

The striker appeared to be struggling with breathing issues as he went down towards the end of the first half.

Shortly before the halftime break, Aguero went down to the ground while signalling to his chest, prompting medical staff to spring to action.

He however managed to walk off the pitch, and the club later confirmed that he went to hospital to have his heart checked.

Barcelona said in a statement:

"Sergio Agüero was struggling with chest pain for much of the first half and was replaced by Philippe Coutinho at halftime and then taken to hospital for cardiac analysis."

At some point in the first half, Aguero seemed to point to the bench, indicating that he wanted to be taken off.

Speaking on Aguero’s condition, Caretaker coach Sergi Barjuán said:

“He told me he was a little dizzy. I have found out now that they have taken him to the hospital to see what he really has. I do not know anymore.”

This was Baraguan’s first match in charge since the sacking of Ronald Koeman.

After a first half that was fairly cagey, Memphis Depay put his side into the lead four minutes after the break with a fine strike from the edge of the area.

Barcelona would only lead for three minutes, however, as Alaves got their equaliser through Luis Rioja, who played a neat one-two with Joselu before rounding Barça keeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen to score an excellent equaliser.

The game only had an attendance of 37,000 fans, which is the worst turnout at the Nou Camp in recent history.

Al Sadd speak on Xavi's situation

Legit.ng earlier reported that Qatari side Al Sadd have broken the silence amid rumours that their current boss Xavi is on the verge of becoming the next Barcelona boss.

Barcelona President Joan Laporta on Friday, October 29 admitted he was in contact with Xavi following the sacking of Ronald Koeman on Wednesday.

Despite being contacted, Xavi remains Al Sadd boss and the club took to social media with a statement saying:

"Xavi has a two-year contract and is fully focused on the team's upcoming matches."
