French Defender Jules Koundé Grows Frustrated With Barcelona’s Inability to Register Him for La Liga Fixtures

For French defender Jules Koundé, that has become a stark reality at FC Barcelona.

Koundé is not yet registered with La Liga and, therefore, unable to play any league games for the Catalan giants. He is set to miss out on his second game of the season when Barcelona travels to take on Real Sociedad.

With another matchday passing him by, Koundé is said to be growing frustrated at the club, Football Espana reported.

The defender has also expressed to the club that he is extremely frustrated with the situation. The technical team had to break the news to Koundé on Saturday that he won’t be able to play in Barca’s clash; however, they assured him that they have economic measures in place to solve the situation so that he will be able to feature in the club’s following fixture against Real Valladolid.

Koundé does have a clause in his contract which allows him to leave Barcelona as a free agent if the club fails to register him before the close of the transfer window. The Catalan giants have just over a week to avoid that outcome.

Barcelona were hoping to sanction the sale of Memphis Depay to Juventus during the week in order to register Koundé, but negotiations have broken down between the club and the player.

Depay is also listed on Barca’s official squad list for the clash against Real Sociedad.

The only notable names missing from the list are Koundé, Samuel, Umtiti, Martin Braithwaite, and Sergio Busquets. Umtiti and Braithwaite have been told that they have no future at the club, while Busquets is suspended after he picked up a red card against Rayo Vallecano in Barcelona’s first game of the season.

Jules Kounde could end up leaving Barcelona without making a competitive appearance for the Catalan club as Barcelona are still to register the French defender for the new campaign.

Barcelona reached an agreement with Sevilla to sign Kounde this summer after a fee of €55 million was paid, with the defender penning a contract at Camp Nou until 2027.

Blaugrana will, however, lose the services of Kounde as a clause in the player’s contract has revealed he can leave for free if the club fails to register him before the end of the transfer window.
