Sergio Agüero didn’t believe the news that Lionel Messi was leaving Barcelona.
The former Manchester City great has opened up about Messi’s departure and how he found out the news.
Agüero signed for Barcelona in 2021 after leaving Manchester City and one of the main reasons was to play alongside his best friend, Messi.
However, just after a month of arriving at his new club, Agüero found out that Messi was leaving the club on a free transfer. Barcelona’s financial issues meant that the Blaugrana could not extend his contract at the club.

Aguero has now explained how he found out the news and how he thought it was a joke at first, BarcaUniversal reported.
The Argentinian striker explained that he was with a friend when they saw the announcement on Barcelona’s social media pages.
“When Barcelona announced Messi’s departure I thought someone had hacked Barça’s social networks. I thought it was a joke,” Agüero said.
Agüero didn’t last too long with the Catalan side either. Just a few months into his move, he was forced to retire from football due to a heart condition, Sky Sports reported.
