Lionel Messi's father has admitted that he hopes the football star will return to Barcelona one day.

Messi ended his almost two-decade spell with the La Liga giants last summer to seal a sensational switch to Paris Saint-Germain.

At the time, Messi's contract with Barca had expired and the cash-strapped side were unable to fund a new deal.

Despite the forward's exit from the Camp Nou, the prospect of him making a return to the club has been lingering, with the current boss, Xavi, conceding the door will always be left open for the forward to reunite with the Spanish giants.

Lionel Messi's dad hopeful his son will return to Barcelona

Messi's dad, Jorge, has now revealed that he has a desire of seeing the seven-time Ballon d'Or winner in a Barcelona shirt at some point in his career.

"I hope it [happens], some day," Goal quoted Jorge saying when asked about the prospect of Messi moving back to Barcelona.

Jorge's admission came at a time Messi has endured a frustrating campaign at Parc des Princes.

Despite his much-publicised move to PSG, Messi has failed to live up to his billing, with the 34-year-old managing just six goals in 23 Ligue 1 appearances.

Barcelona put nine players on sale

Earlier, Sports Brief reported Frenkie de Jong and Memphis Depay headline a long list of players Barcelona have reportedly made available for sale.

Barcelona are set to embark on a squad rebuild this summer, with Xavi keen to sign players who can fit his playing system.

The La Liga giants are looking to complete a number of signings, with the trio of Andreas Christensen, Cesar Azpilicueta and Marcos Alonso on their wishlist.
