Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang has heaped praise on his Barcelona teammate Ousmane Dembele. The duo were in-form as they helped Barcelona bit Celta Vigo 3-1 on Tuesday night.
Aubameyang scored twice while Dembele assisted twice to ensure Barcelona cemented their grip on second place. Memphis Depay had scored the opening goal for the Catalans while Iago Aspas grabbed a consolation goal for Celta.
Dembele’s recent performances have been widely praised by the Camp Nou faithful. Aubameyang has been the latest to jump on the bandwagon, asking him to stay on with the Catalans.
The French winger was set to leave Barcelona in January after a breakdown in contract negotiations. He was roundly booed at Camp Nou but head coach Xavi Hernandez stuck with him.
He turned around his Barcelona fortunes by picking a good run of form that has seen him become La Liga’s top assister so far. After his Celta Vigo performance, he now has 13 assists to his name this season.
Dembele and Auba knew each other at Dortmund
Speaking after the Celta Vigo win as reported by Goal, Aubameyang expressed his wish of Dembele to extend his stay. The two spent some little time at Borussia Dortmund before going separate ways.
He is my little brother. We have spent a long time together since the first day. When I arrived in Dortmund, I knew him a bit. With time we have built this relationship which is like a brother.
