Several thousands of supporters are expected to welcome new African champions Banyana Banyana at the OR Tambo Airport on Tuesday morning.

South Africa defeated hosts Morocco 2-1 in the final of the 2022 Women's Africa Cup of Nations final on Saturday night, courtesy of two quick-fire Hildah Magaia at the Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat.

The result ensured that Banyana Banyana won the final of the competition for the first time after failing in five previous attempts.

According to iDiskiTimes, the team will touch down around 9.30 am after their flight from North Africa.

Speaking on the victory, Sport24 quoted coach Desiree Ellis saying:

"They showed that they wanted to win, they showed true Kasi flavour, the South African spirit, and the togetherness."

Besides the thousands of people there to celebrate the occasion with them, players from the team can also expect thousands of rands each as a reward for their historic achievement. They will each receive R400 000 from a R9.2 million bonus that was promised to them by the South African Football Association last month.
