Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos has found himself having to defend his squad selection for the AFCON qualifier against Morocco in June.
Broos announced his final 23-man squad yesterday, but many have criticised his decision to leave out key names.
One such player who hasn’t made the squad despite his goalscoring form this season is Royal AM’s Victor Letsoalo. Letsoalo has scored 15 goals so far this season and is the second-highest scorer in the DStv Premiership.
Broos, though, isn’t impressed with Letsoalo performance and bluntly explained why he left him out of the squad, SABC Sport reported.
“I have followed Victor again, he is a scorer. But I saw also that, I think, he was scoring nine penalties, So, if you take that off from his figures, he is not so good anymore for a striker,” Broos said.
While Broos isn’t impressed with Letsoalo, Royal AM owner Shauwn Mkhize definitely is. MaMkhize recently slapped a R20 million price tag on the striker as Kaizer Chiefs were once again rumoured to be after his signature. Royal AM CEO Sinky Mnisi once described the striker as a Rolls Royce who could not be sold for the price of a cheap Mazda 323.
As reported by iDiskiTimes, Mkhize added that she wants to keep stability in her team.
“I want to keep stability in my team and I want to compete in the Top 8. Me, I’m not here to sell players, but I’m here to make sure that our team achieves what we want to achieve,” she said.
