Just weeks after Bongani Zungu was being praised for his performances in France, the South African player has landed himself in trouble once again.

Zungu was just returning to form for French Side Amiens, having been moved to a new position in defence.

This past weekend though, Zungu angered his club with his actions, and Amiens coach and management blamed the player for the loss against Pau.

Zungu was sent off after he received two yellow cards in quick succession. Zungu was given a yellow for dissent as he argued with the referee. The card didn’t deter the player and he continued to argue with the referee over the issuing of the card and was given a second yellow, just seconds later. As reported by KickOff, his attitude towards the referee was described as aggressive.

Zungu was sent off in the 66th minute and at that stage, Amiens were 1-0 up. They would eventually lose 2-1 as Pau took advantage of the ten men of Amiens.

Following the defeat, Amiens coach Philippe Hinschberger blamed the player for the team’s loss, The South African reported.

“I don’t want to attack the referee who was pretty good, the fault is entirely on Bongani Zungu. I’m neither in his head nor in his body but he got the card. We shot ourselves in the foot, we can say that we scuttled ourselves,” Hinschberger said.

Club President, Bernard Joannin, also described Zungu’s attitude as ‘unacceptable.’

Zungu is no stranger to controversy and was previously suspended at Rangers for breaching Covid19 protocols in Scotland. He also was originally dropped from the Amiens side for weight issues.

Bongani Zungu makes another victorious appearance for Amiens in the French Cup

Earlier Sports Brief reported that Bafana Bafana and former Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder, Bongani Zungu, continued to revive his career on the European continent, at French club Amiens SC.

Zungu made another triumphant appearance in the French Cup as Amiens SC defeated minnows Linas-Monthlery. The match ended 3-3 after extra time, with Zungu subsequently converting his spot-kick in a 4-3 penalty shoot out win.

Zungu played as a central defender in that game as well and his side almost threw away the game having led 3-0 at halftime, according to iDiski Times. This comes just over a week after he appeared in another French Cup win when Amiens saw off Guingamp 3-2.
