The Gabonese forward was stripped off the role just days after he was dropped for Saturday's Premier League clash against Southampton.

The development was confirmed by Arsenal on Tuesday, December 14, with the club confirming the striker, will play no role in their meeting with West Ham on Wednesday.

"Following his latest disciplinary breach last week, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang will no longer be our club captain, and will not be considered for selection for Wednesday's match against West Ham United," the north London club said.
"We expect all our players, particularly our captain, to work to the rules and standards we have all set and agreed. We are fully focused on tomorrow’s match," the club added.

Speaking on Aubameyang's situation at the Emirates, Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta said the striker had been dropped for the Southampton clash due to "a disciplinary breach."

Incidentally, this was not the first time the Gabon international had landed himself in trouble with Arteta - having been punished by the Gunners boss earlier in the year.

At the time, the former Borussia Dortmund star was said to have reported late for a training session.

Aubameyang was named Arsenal skipper back in November 2019, succeeding Granit Xhaka who had been axed from the role.

It now remains to be seen who Arteta will appoint to replace Auba, with Alexander Lacazette and Aaron Ramsdale both touted as possible options.

Auba told Arsenal career is over

Earlier, TUKO.co.ke reported Premier League legend Chris Sutton contends Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang's career at the Emirates is over after appearing to fall out with Mikel Arteta.

According to Sutton, this could now mark the beginning of the end of Auba's career with the Gunners.

"There's clearly a rift between the two parties and something has got to give. it will be interesting how this one will be resolved," he added.
