FootballGabriel Martinelli Fires Back at Critics Who Slammed His Inclusion in Brazil’s World Cup Squad
- Gabriel Martinelli has hit back at critics who were angered by his inclusion in the Brazil squad for the 2022 World Cup
- Martinelli said that although not many people in Brazil are familiar with his game, he stated that he will contribute in Qatar
- Former Brazil star Neto criticised Brazil coach Tite for calling upon Martinelli instead of Flamengo star Gabigol
Arsenal star Gabriel Martinelli has responded to critics who criticised his call-up to the Brazil World Cup squad this week, some of who say that Gabigol should've been called up instead of the Gunners winger.
Former Brazil star Neto angrily tore into head coach Tite's decision to take the 21-year-old to the tournament, calling it a joke and a lack of respect for football.
Martinelli has been brilliant for the Gunners this season, playing a pivotal role in the Mikel Arteta side's excellent start to the season. Considering the fierce competition in the Brazilian national team set-up, Martinelli must've caught the eye of Tite.
This will be the first tournament for the Arsenal youngster. He won the first of his three caps against Chile in March before playing against Bolivia and Japan. He was also part of the Brazil team that won the Olympic gold in 2021.

Martinelli response to his critics
The Gunners star has responded to those who did not like his call-up to the Brazilian team, saying criticism was normal.
“Some people in Brazil don't know me and it's also normal to say that other players deserved to be there, but I'm pretty cool about it. I think this is normal."
Martinelli added that he knows what he is doing at his club, he knows his ability, and he knows what he is capable of.
"You can be sure that I will do my best for the Brazilian team; in whatever I can help the team, I will help. It will be a great experience for me,” he told ESPN Brasil via Goal.
