Premier League club Arsenal are looking to bolster their squad ahead of next season having finished in the 5th position during the just-concluded campaign.

Club manager Mikel Arteta would be disappointed that they failed to qualify for the Champions League, however, they are now looking at the possibility of signing France midfielder Houssem Aouar.

The Gunners have failed to finish in the top-four position for six consecutive seasons now, but they will hope to change their status in the next campaign.

SPORTbible reports that the club manager is worried about the midfield and a report via SunSport suggest that they are interested in Aouar.

The 23-year-old is said to possess great awareness and a dribbling ability which would complement a defensive midfielder such as Granit Xhaka or Thomas Partey.

It was gathered that French Ligue 1 side Lyon have slapped a £12.6million on the classy midfielder as negotiations over renewing his contract has stalled.

Aouar is believed to be demanding higher wages, but that should not deter top Premier League clubs like Arsenal who are richer.

However, other top clubs interested in the youngster include Liverpool, Real Betis and Real Sociedad who are all said to be monitoring the star.

Elneny signs contract extension with Arsenal

Meanwhile, Arsenal midfielder Mohammed Elneny has signed a new short term deal to remain at the club.

The 29-year old was set to become a free agent in the summer, but the Gunners have decided to retain his services for one more year. Elneny’s new one-year deal has the option to extend it for 12 months.

Since joining Arsenal from FC Basel in 2015, El Neny has made 147 appearances for the club.

Aubameyang reacts as Arsenal fail to qualify for Champions League

Sports Brief earlier reported that Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has sent Arsenal a message after they missed out on a Champions League qualification.

The Gunners came close to securing a top-four spot this term by just two points, with rivals, Tottenham Hotspur, finishing ahead of them.

Aubameyang, who spent the first half of the season at the Emirates has now expressed his disappointment after his former side failed to qualify for the top four.
