Mikel Arteta is hoping for a miracle from Norwich when the Canaries host Tottenham Hotspur at Carrow Road on the final matchday of the English Premier League on Sunday, May 22.

The Arsenal manager has not yet given up hope of the Gunners’ chances of qualifying for next season’s UEFA Champions League despite back-to-back defeats that have left Arsenal two points adrift of Spurs.

According to a report via Sky Sports, Arteta is hoping Norwich can do the Gunners a favour by defeating their North London rivals and insists he will be cheering for the Canaries.

"We are back in Europe, we don't know where, hopefully, it will be in the Champions League - we'll do what we have to do and we will be cheering for Norwich."

Arsenal will have to defeat Everton in the final game of the season and hope Norwich who has lost their last five of their last six home games produce a miracle to earn a win against Tottenham to finish in the top-four.

Meanwhile, Arsenal are not waiting for the season to end officially before getting busy in the summer transfer market.

According to Goal, the Gunners are set to complete their first summer signing as they close in on a move for Marquinhos.

Marquinhos has arrived in London and is set to undergo his medicals to complete the transfer which is said to cost Arsenal around £3 million for the 19-year-old attacker.

Earlier, Sports Brief reported Mikel Arteta has admitted his side were not at their best during their trip to Newcastle United on Monday night, May 16.

The Gunners were hoping to bounce back to winning ways after suffering a 3-0 defeat in their last outing against rivals, Tottenham Hotspur.

However, Arsenal were unable to find their mojo as they lost 2-0 in a result that could have a catastrophic effect on their efforts to qualify for the Champions League.
