Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey could be sidelined for the rest of the season after Mikel Arteta's latest update on the player.

Partey suffered an injury during the Gunners' 3-0 defeat to London rivals Crystal Palace in Monday's Premier League game at Selhurst Park.

The club reported on their official website that the Ghana international sustained muscle damage to his right thigh following series of scans.

Per reports on the Guardian, Partey could be missing the rest of Arsenal’s chase for the Champions League spots after Mikel Arteta said the midfielder had sustained a “significant” injury.

“It’s a little bit ambiguous but he has a significant injury and we’ll have to keep assessing him,” Arteta said as quoted by the Guardian.
“He will be for some weeks. It could be [that he can play again this season] but it could not be the case, because it’s an area where he had a previous injury as well and he felt it straightaway. He’s not fit.”

Prior to the injury, Partey was Arsenal's best player driving the club in their chase for Champions League football and his absence could derail their ambitions of securing the fourth spot - which has proven elusive for the Gunners after Arsene Wenger's exit.

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Arsenal has been dealt with a huge blow in their quest for a Champions League spot after Thomas Partey suffered an injury against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park on Monday night.

The Gunners were hammered 3-0 by Patrick Vieira's side who are unbeaten in their last seven games in all competitions.

Two first-half goals from Jean-Philippe Mateta and Jordan Ayew put the home side in control before Wilfried Zaha's second-half penalty ensured a well-deserved victory for the Eagles.
