Top Ten EPL African Stars Observing the Holy Month of Ramadan

Arsenal and Ghana midfielder Thomas Partey will be the newest member of the Muslim players in the English Premier League to observe the month of Ramadan.

The 28-year-old reportedly converted to Islam last month after months of studying the religion at his base in London.

He joins a distinguished list of African stars in the English Premier League who are also engaging in the religious practice.

Liverpool duo Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mané are some of the big-name Muslim players in the World and the English Premier League, also engaged in the fasting month.

Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic Calendar, where Muslims observe a 30 day fast as part of strengthening their relationship with Allah.

Sports Brief looks at ten Africa stars in the English Premier League observing Ramadan.

Thomas Partey - Arsenal

Thomas Partey recently converted to Islam after studying the religion for some time at his base in London. This will be the Ghana international's first Ramadan as a Muslim.

Partey, last month was spotted with an Imam, where his religious switch was completed. He is, however, yet to officially announce his move to Islam.

Thomas Partey has been an important member of the Arsenal team this season, winning the Player of the Month award in February.

Mohamed Salah - Liverpool

The Egyptian has for years observed Ramadan while playing at the highest level and this year's fasting is another moment to further strengthen his relationship with Allah.

Unlike Partey, he was born a Muslim.

Salah is the leading scorer in the English Premier League this season, and looks set to lead the Reds to success on many fronts.

Sadio Mané - Liverpool

Sadio Mané is revered by the Muslim community in Liverpool. He was once spotted cleaning a mosque around the Merseyside area.

Mané devotion to Islam is admirable and he performs the Sujood, an Islamic prostration, any time he scores.

The Senegalese has been in top form for Liverpool this season, helping them win the Caraboa Cup and are through to the quarter-finals of the UEFA Champions League.

Jordan Ayew - Crystal Palace

Ghanaian forward Jordan Ayew is another player observing Ramadan. Ayew, son of legendary Ghanaian footballer, Abedi Pele, is a proud Muslim.

On Tuesday, Jordan showed his religious part after prostrating following his goal against Arsenal.

Riyad Mahrez - Manchester City

The France-born Algeria international is another Muslim player in the English Premier League. Mahrez is also taking part in the holy month of fasting.

Mahrez, just like Mane and Salah, always prostrate and show adulation to God anytime he is on target.

Mohamed El Neny - Arsenal

The Arsenal midfielder is not having the best of campaign in England, as he struggles to get game time with the Gunners. He also lost the Nations Cup and World Cup berth to Senegal.

However, the defensive midfielder is a devoured Muslim and actively practices the religion.

Ismaila Sarr

Sarr will be hoping to help Watford avoid relegation and in this holy month, most of his prayers will be channeled towards that.

Ismailla Sarr was part of the Senegal side that won the Africa Cup of Nations early this year.

Mohammed Salisu

The third Ghanaian on the list. The Southampton center-back is enjoying a breakthrough campaign this season but Salisu will be challenged this month as he observes Ramadan for the first time in the EPL.

Moussa Djenepo

Djenepo joins Salisu as Southampton players on the list. The Mali international has more experience playing in the Premier League and fasting than his teammate Salisu.

This season, the Malian has made 11 appearances in the English topflight.

Cheikhou Kouyate

Kouyate would not having a problem performing fasting an playing after eight years in the English Premier League. He played for West Ham from 2014 to 2018 before joining Crystal Palace.

He is an integral member of the Eagles and also played a part in Senegal's AFCON triumph.
