English Born Ghanaian Striker Eddie Nketiah Wins Carabao Cup Top Scorer Award

Ghanaian-born English forward Eddie Nketiah has won the top scorer’s accolade in the recently ended Carabao Cup in England.

The 2021/22 Carabao Cup campaign came to an end on Sunday, 27th February, 2022 when Liverpool faced Chelsea in a thrilling final staged at Wembley Stadium.

The Reds won the title after they stunned the Blues 10-11 on penalties, with Kepa Arrizabalaga, who came on for the shootout missing the decisive spot kick.

How Eddie Nketiah fared in 2021/22 Carabao Cup

The goal king of the Carabao Cup, previously known as the EFL Cup, was won by Nketiah with five goals.

The 22-year-old proved important for Mikel Arteta's side after scoring 55% of his side's total team goals in the domestic cup competition.

His first goal came in the second round of the competition when he scored in Arsenal's 3-0 victory AFC Wimbledon at the Emirates Stadium.

Th ex-England Youth forward was also on target in the 69th minute when the Gunners thumped Leeds United 2-0 at home.

His hat-trick in the quarter-finals in a 5-1 drubbing over Sunderland helped Arsenal to progress to the semi finals. Nketiah was even crowned the best player of the third round after his treble.

In the semi-finals, however, Nketiah failed to register goal as Arsenal exited the tournament with a 2-0 aggregate loss to eventual winners, Liverpool.
