FootballMikel Arteta Appoints New Arsenal Captain After Aubameyang's Exit
- Alexander Lacazette has been named Arsenal's new captain for the remainder of the 2021/22 season
- The Frenchman who is likely to depart the Emirates this summer will be taking over from Aubameyang
- Aubameyang recently dumped the Gunners to seal a move to Barcelona following his fall-out with Mikel Arteta
Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has appointed Alexander Lacazette as the club's new captain for the remainder of the 2021/22 campaign.
The Gunners have been without a substantive skipper since Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was stripped of the role following "a disciplinary breach."
And with the Gabonese striker already past tense at the Emirates following his January switch to Barcelona, Arteta has resolved to fill the role with Lacazette.
This will not be the first time Lacazette is sporting the Arsenal armband, having captained the north London on several occasions this term.
However, the Frenchman has been handed the role on a permanent basis, with Arteta making the announcement during his press conference ahead of Arsenal's trip to Wolves.
Lacazette's uncertain future at Emirates
Arteta's decision to appoint Lacazette as his new captain remains unclear given the Frenchman is staring at an uncertain future with the Gunners.
According to Daily Mail, the former Lyon striker looks very likely to depart the Emirates in the summer.
However, his immense experience and longevity as Arsenal is understood to have influenced Arteta's move to hand him the armband.
The 30-year-old forward who joined Arsenal in the summer of 2017 has made nearly 200 appearances for the north Londoners.
Liverpool told to sign Saka

Salah, who has been fantastic for Liverpool since he joined them from AS Roma in the summer of 2017 has his future at Anfield hanging in the balance.
Manchester United Legend Set to Make Boxing Debut in April
BoxingEx-Premier League striker Kevin Phillips has now urged the Reds to go all out for Arsenal's Saka to fill Salah's boots at Anfield.
“I think Saka will get better and better. He’s still a young kid, he’s done a lot already in his short career," Philips told Football Insider.
