FootballAmazulu Worked With MaMkhize and Co. to Knock Swallows FC Out of Carling Black Label Cup Race
- Amazulu has explained how it sneaked into the Carling Black Label Cup tournament coming in November
- The club worked with its neighbours in KwaZulu-Natal to surge past Swallows FC into the fourth and final spot
- This came after The Birds alleged foul play in how they were beaten to the finish line in voting by the public
There was nothing sinister about the manner in which Amazulu snuck into the Carling Black Label Cup.
This is what one can glean from club president Sandile Zungu, who explained how Usuthu surged past Swallows FC late in the voting process when it appeared that the Birds were in for all money.
According to iDiski Times, Zungu said:
"What we did was we mobilised our fans and we went to different radio stations in KZN where I urged fans to vote. I spoke to supporters’ clubs from our structures that they must go all out to vote for Usuthu. I even hired some guys to go to the shabeens because there are a lot of people who are drinking Black Label but who don’t have time to vote.

“Everyone in my office of AmaZulu and Zico, we were up and down voting. I spoke to Jomo Biyela [the chairman] of Richards Bay, my GM [Tshepiso Mofokeng] spoke to MaMkhize to help us here. Even though they were not actively assisting us, they played their role."
Swallows FC chairperson David Mogashoa alleges foul play in voting for Carling Black Label Cup teams
Swallows FC chairperson David Mogashoa smells a rat.
Mogashoa believes that his team was stiffed out of participating in the Carling Black Label Cup. Kaizer Chiefs, Orlando Pirates, Mamelodi Sundowns and Amazulu are in the extravaganza that will take place at Soccer City Stadium on 12 November.
Mogashoa said in a rant:
"I saw it coming. Someone (from Amazulu) kept posting (on Twitter) how they got the leaderboard. How do we know it's legal. You can't go all out just to see the results. The last two leaderboards posted Amazulu having 9 336 votes ahead of Chiefs, the most popular club in the country who had 2 760 votes. Hayikhona! [It can't be].
