FootballSiyabonga Nomvethe Takes a Shot at Rulani Mokwena, Saying That Mamelodi Sundowns Has All the Best Players
- The normally reserved Siyabonga Nomvete has joined in the war of words surrounding Mamelodi Sundowns' transfer market power
- The Amazulu assistant coach said that the scales are favourably balanced towards the Brazilians when it comes to acquiring quality players
- This is not long after Orlando Pirates co-coach Mandla Ncikazi used an amusing analogy using local supermarket chains to explain the disparity
First it was Mandla Ncikazi, and now it is Siyabonga Nomvete who has joined on the chorus of people bemoaning Mamelodi Sundowns' spending power.
Nomvethe, an assistant coach at Amazulu, believes that the Brazilians' limitless budget means that they will dominate the DStv Premiership for a while yet, boasting 75% of the league's best players. Orlando Pirates co-coach Mandla Ncikazi had said that Sundowns does its shopping at Woolworths, while the other teams did son at Pick n Pay.
According to the Citizen, this was in response to Sundowns coach Rulani Mokwena's assertion that Masandawana were knocked out of the CAF Champions League because of the lack of competition at home.
Nomvethe said:
“The other teams will catch up eventually, you will see. There will be a time when they don’t win the league, and another club does… You must remember one thing, that Sundowns owns almost 75% of all the good players in the league. Anyone in their team can play regularly at any other team and you can’t compare AmaZulu to Sundowns.
“Sundowns always have three competitive teams, and they can change the team with no effect on the play. For us, we have that limitation with players. When we get injuries and suspensions, it is a disaster but for them they have enough quality players to not feel that pinch.
"Rulani must not make it look like they are just doing as they please (because they are superior), it is just their time, and when the time comes, things will change.”
