Following his exit, the Usuthu were quick to be linked with replacement, some names which may surprise many. Soccer Laduma reported that insiders at the club noted that AmaZulu management were monitoring the situation of Stuart Baxter and Arthur Zwane as well.

Baxter’s position at Naturena is under severe threat as well due to the Amakhosi’s performances this season. McCarthy on the other hand has been linked with a move to Orlando Pirates, The South African reported.

The former Bafana striker previously played for Pirates, scoring 13 goals from his 39 games with the Buccaneers. Following his release, McCarthy penned a special message to the club, thanking them for his time at the club.

“I would like to sincerely thank the players and the fans for their support since I’ve joined AmaZulu. I feel privileged to have been able to make history with this club by taking them from the relegation zone to an unprecedented second-place position in the league last season. I wish the club all the best going forward as they build on this success,” McCarthy said.

AmaZulu and Benni McCarthy part ways, Usuthu Chairman Sandile Zungu confirms that the club needed a change

Benni McCarthy is no longer the coach of AmaZulu Football Club. AmaZulu confirmed earlier today that they had parted ways with the 44-year-old, but that the decision was an amicable one, Sports Brief reported.

Benni joined the KwaZulu-Natal based side in December 2020 and led them to the second spot in the DStv Premiership. When he joined the club, they were languishing in 13th, iDiski Times reported. Benni also led the team to their first CAF Champions League campaign.

This season has been a different story, though, as AmaZulu have drawn 14 games and sit in ninth position. The record for most draws in a season is 20 and belongs to Swallows FC. In explaining why the club let go of McCarthy, Chairman Sandile Zungu explained that the Usuthu needed change, KickOff reported.
