  • Zouma’s younger brother Yoan has been charged for his role in the cat video that went viral four weeks ago
  • The 23-year-old, who plays for Dagenham & Redbridge, has also been reintegrated back into the National League side’s squad
  • Yoan is believed to be the one who filmed the cat video which has since gone viral and caused an outrage online

Kurt Zouma’s brother Yoan has been handed some reprieve weeks after the controversial cat incident as his club Dagenham & Redbridge has restored him back to the squad.

Yoan, 23, was filmed alongside his brother Kurt in a disturbing video where the brothers appeared to be mistreating their pet cat.

While Zouma has continued to play for his West Ham side, Yoan was not so lucky as Dagenham & Redbridge dropped him and he has not featured for his side since January 29.

It was announced last month that the club had suspended Yoan until investigations by the RSPCA on the sickening video were completed.

On Wednesday, March 16, it was confirmed that Yoan had been charged by the RSPCA over the incident.

BBC further reports that Dagenham will allow the defender to play for the national league side again after his period of suspension.

"Dagenham & Redbridge FC note the decision of the RSPCA to charge Yoan Zouma under the Animal Welfare Act 2006.” A statement read.
"Whilst Yoan continues to fully co-operate with the RSPCA, as this matter has now progressed further, Dagenham & Redbridge FC feel it is no longer appropriate for either Yoan or the Club to make any further statement.

Kurt Zouma in the aftermath of the cat video

Meanwhile, Kurt Zouma has continued to feature for his side despite the video, having been fined by West Ham following the incident.

West Ham boss David Moyes has previously defended his decision to play the Frenchman, saying the decision was purely based on tactical and football grounds.

However, it has not been an easy ride for Zouma in the wake of the incident as he has constantly been taunted by chants and banners for his role in the cat video.

During the clash against Newcastle United on February 19, Newcastle fans could not help themselves as they taunted the embattled defender using inflatable cats at the London stadium.

Prior to that, Zouma was a notable absentee from the 2-2 draw against Leicester City on Sunday, February 13 as he pulled out of the game at the last minute after ‘feeling unwell’
