The local footballing community is still coming to terms with the news that AmaZulu had parted ways with Benni McCarthy.
AmaZulu owner, Sandile Zungu, explained that the club needed a change and therefore they had cut ties with McCarthy with immediate effect.
Following his exit, the Usuthu were quick to be linked with replacement, some names which may surprise many. Soccer Laduma reported that insiders at the club noted that AmaZulu management were monitoring the situation of Stuart Baxter and Arthur Zwane as well.
Baxter’s position at Naturena is under severe threat as well due to the Amakhosi’s performances this season. McCarthy on the other hand has been linked with a move to Orlando Pirates, The South African reported.
The former Bafana striker previously played for Pirates, scoring 13 goals from his 39 games with the Buccaneers. Following his release, McCarthy penned a special message to the club, thanking them for his time at the club.
“I would like to sincerely thank the players and the fans for their support since I’ve joined AmaZulu. I feel privileged to have been able to make history with this club by taking them from the relegation zone to an unprecedented second-place position in the league last season. I wish the club all the best going forward as they build on this success,” McCarthy said.
