  • Amazulu are hoping to reignite their dream of qualifying for the quarterfinals of the CAF Champions League
  • Usuthu missed the opportunity to almost seal this deal when they lost away to ES Setif 2-0 last weekend
  • They have the opportunity to take another step towards a last eight position in their inaugural African campaign

Amazulu is still in with the chance of qualifying for the quarterfinals of the CAF Champions League quarterfinals.

In order to do so, they have to complete the home-and-away double of Moroccan giants Raja Casablanca. The match will take place at the Moses Mabhida Stadium starting at 6pm on Friday evening.

As reported by SuperSport, Usuthu failed to convert their chances in Algeria as they lost 2-0 to ES Setif on matchday four, which has left Group B wide open with two matches to go.

The Black Eagles went level with Benni McCarthy's side on six points, but leapfrogged them into second place by virtue of a superior goal difference. Raja lead the group with nine points.

The KZN outfit are winless in their last three encounters, having been beaten 2-0 by SuperSport United just three days after they drew 2-2 with Stellenbosch in the DStv Premiership.

McCarthy admitted they have struggled in front goal this season and feels the outcome could have been different in North Africa had his players taken their opportunities last weekend.

Mccarthy said:

"Finishing has been a big problem for us this season, not just in the CAF competition but in the domestic league. Chances that any player, maybe a 15-year-old kid would probably score we seemed to miss and when you do that you make life difficult for yourself."
"When the game is tough as this when you get an opportunity you put it in the back of the net then the game can change on its head just like that."

Meanwhile, Raja suffered a surprise 2-1 defeat to Horoya in Conakry, Guinea earlier on Saturday, which has opened the door for any of the four clubs to win the group.

The Green Eagles saw a five-match winning streak come to an end as part of a 10-game unbeaten run in all competitions.

Usuthu will be buoyed by their first meeting against the Moroccan giants, having come away from the port city of Casablanca with a 1-0 win on matchday one.

CAF Champions League Match Report: ES Setif pumps the brakes on Amazulu's quarterfinal aspirations

Amazulu fumbled the opportunity to top group B of the CAF Champions League with a 2-0 loss away to Algerian side ES Setif.

Taking place at the Stade du 5 Juillet 1962 in Algiers, the result was settled by two first half strikes from Riad Benayad and Akram Djahnit, reported Sports Brief.

It left Usuthu in third place on six points in the group, tied with Setif, who are second courtesy of goal difference.
