- The Bafana Bafana player has had a case of domestic abuse opened against him by the woman, who was said to have been protecting his image
- She is expecting the couple's second child, with Mvala set to appear in court in early January to answer to the allegations
Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Mothobi Mvala has ruined his festive season after falling foul of the law.
Mvala is alleged to have assaulted his girlfriend this past week, and has had a case of domestic violence against him opened with the police.
According to Soccer Laduma, Mvala and the woman had been together for more than five years. A source told the publication that, while the couple seemed happy, all had not been well and that the authorities had been called in to intervene.
The source said:
"Mothobi Mvala has had a case of domestic violence opened against him by his girlfriend and mother of his child Palesa Botipe. Palesa is fed up with how abusive Mothobi has been towards her and has decided to go the legal route because the guy isn’t stopping with what he has been doing.
"They have been together for more than five years and were in the process of getting married after the football star sent his uncles to pay lobola for her, but the lady feels like she has been protecting the guy for far too long and wants action to be taken against him."
The source added that Mvala's girlfriend was pregnant with the couple's second child, and that, after trying to protect his image, she felt that "enough was enough".
According to the report, the Bafana Bafana player will have to appear in court on 12 January. Mvala was yet to comment on the allegations levelled against him.

FootballWild reaction to MaMkhize slashing the salary bill at Royal AM as financial pinch sets in
Sport Brief readers were either unsurprised or gleeful that Royal AM decided to cut the high salary bill biting the club.
The squad is heaving with over 45 players on its roster. This is because owner Shauwn Mkhize bought out Bloemfontein Celtic and its DStv Premiership licence while her charges were still in the National First Division below.
As reported on Sports Brief, the Celtic players then had to be incorporated into AM, which upset the wage bill.
