  • The reaction to Royal AM cutting the salary bill swung between glee and understanding on social media
  • MaMkhize's team, enjoying a good start to the season, is overloaded with 45 players after acquiring Bloemfontein Celtic
  • "For her son to buy another McLaren to compete with Casper," joked one reader as folks gave their thoughts on the development

Sport Brief readers were either unsurprised or gleeful that Royal AM decided to cut the high salary bill biting the club.

The squad is heaving with over 45 players on its roster. This is because owner Shauwn Mkhize bought out Bloemfontein Celtic and its DStv Premiership licence while her charges were still in the National First Division below.

As reported on Kickoff.com, the Celtic players then had to be incorporated into AM, which upset the wage bill.

MaMkhize once infamously came onto the field after a victory over Maritzburg United with her son Andile Mpisane, handing cash envelopes to the players, as report by IOL. This was met with furrowed brows of disapproval from all quarters, as well as a very hard slap on the wrist from the Premier Soccer League.

Honourable Matope said:

"Football is not as easy as it looks. It's a difficult business and with the way she likes splashing money she might end up being broke. The likes of Chiefs have become entities and that's why they can never crumble overnight."

Azola Converse advised MaMkhize:

"Keep four Celtic players, Mama, and send the rest of the former Bloem Celtics players back to Free State. We played well last season without these players..."

Collin White said:

"The players must bring back the R50 000 they each received for beating Chiefs."

Sthembile Mbongwa had a different take:

"Half a season is a fair chance for all players that are there to prove that they deserve to be there. Management can now shape the squad to the number they can manage."

Odii Awu joked:

"For her son to buy another McLaren to compete with Casper!"

Mthokzin Mnandi fired at the critics:

"I'm reading some comments people are celebrating. This is just a business decision. She can't keep the players that the coach doesn't use."

Bafana’s Bongokuhle Hlongwane is hot property, linked with Major Soccer League move

Bafana's Bongokuhle Hlongwane is the talk of the transfer town as numerous clubs are rumoured to be interested in the Maritzburg United player.

The 21-year-old striker is being heavily linked with a move to Mamelodi Sundowns but Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs are also interested in signing Hlongwane.

Despite the interest from the Premier Soccer League's big three clubs, Hlongwane could be headed to America.
