Claudio Ranieri who is the manager of Premier League side Watford has stated clearly that striker Emmanuel Dennis found it difficult to decide on whether to go with Nigeria to AFCON or stay back.

Emmanuel Dennis has been superb so far this season for Watford in the Premier League getting the goals for them even though they are at the bottom of the EPL standings.

His brilliant performances in the Premier League earned him an invitation to the Super Eagles for the African Cup of Nations which will start on January 9 in Cameroon.

According to the video posted on Sky Sports, Claudio Ranieri explained that Emmnauel Dennis wanted to go to AFCON and at the same time help Watford.

"I knew they were speaking the board and Nigerian board and I accept every decision they find, for me it’s finished.
"They have a lot of players and they changed the manager and they changed everything. We were ready to give them the players, but they didn't do this.
"The two boards spoke and for me it’s okay, I’m only the coach and I accept everything.
"Now I spoke with him, of course he wanted to go to play, but also he wanted to help Watford."

Earlier, Sports Brief had reported how having tested positive for Covid-19, impressive striker Victor Osimhen will not be part of the Super Eagles' squad to the Africa Cup of Nations.

Also, Abdullahi Shehu injury has forced Augustine Eguavoen to make a number of changes to the continental showpiece billed to start on January 9.

According to the Nigeria Football Federation, there is no problem with the goalkeeping position, as Tyrone Ebuehi has been called to replace Shehu.

With injury to Leon Balogun, Semi Ajayi returns to the group as he can also play as a midfielder.
