The Croatian football fraternity has been plunged into mourning following the death of Marin Cacic.
The NK Nehaj defender tragically died while in hospital where he has been receiving treatment after he collapsed during a training session.
According to SunSport, Cacic was placed into a coma while in hospital only to die days later.
The heartbreaking news was confirmed by his club in an emotional tribute on Facebook, with Bosnian news outlet Klix reporting doctors fought unsuccessfully for his life.
The 23-year-old is understood to have collapsed suddenly after he had suffered a heart attack.
Cacic started his football career with youth sides in Rijeka and went on to have a stint with Italian lower-tier side, Isernia.
He would later end up at NK Nehaj, a second-tier outfit in Croatia who he has been turning out for until his sudden death.
Pele discharged from hospital
Earlier, Sports Brief reported football great Pele has finally been discharged from hospital after two weeks of treatment.
Pele is understood to have been discharged on Thursday, December 23, but will continue his treatment of the colon while at home.
According to BBC, the 81-year-old underwent surgery earlier in September to remove a tumor on his colon.
However, his condition is understood to be stable, with Sao Paulo's Hospital Albert Einstein revealing he would need to continue his treatment from home.
"The patient remains stable and will continue having treatment on the colon tumor that was identified in September," Sky Sports cited a statement from Hospital Albert Einstein

He would later in 2019 be admitted to hospital again for a urinary infection.
