FootballEmbattled Fkf President Nick Mwendwa Re-Arrested, Day after Graft Case Was Dropped
- Football Kenya Federation President Nick Mwendwa Mwendwa was intercepted by DCI sleuths on Friday, November 26
- The Controversial Football Kenya Federation (FKF) president is expected to spend the weekend in remand and will be arraigned in court on Monday
- Only two days ago, the state opted to close his file without preferring any charges against him
Football Kenya Federation President Nick Mwendwa has been arrested once again, barely 24 hours after a graft case against him was tossed out.
TUKO.co.ke has learnt that the controversial FKF boss was arrested around midday along Kiambu Road on his way to the CBD.
FKF CEO Barry Otieno confirmed the arrest to TUKO.co.ke but did not disclose much on why Mwendwa was nabbed for the second time in less than two weeks.
“Yes, I can confirm he (Nick Mwendwa) was arrested while on his way to his office. We cannot say much about his arrest at the moment but indeed he was taken in by the DCI,” Barry told TUKO.co.ke.
Mwendwa is currently being held at the DCI headquarters in Nairobi.
The embattled FKF boss’s arrest comes barely two days after the judiciary dismissed the DCI’s wishes to have him held up until a solid case can be formed against him.
On Thursday, Milimani Senior Principal Magistrate Wandia Nyamu asked the DPP to close Mwendwa's file after failure to present charges against him following his arrest a fortnight ago.
At the time, Mwendwa stood accused of misappropriation of public funds.
After Mwendwa's release on a KSh 4 million cash bail, the prosecution was given seven days to prefer charges against the FKF boss but as Thursday approached, the court decided to close Mwendwa's file, pending further investigations.
Fictitious money transfers
The Registrar of sports reported that an inspection committee had been appointed to inspect the sports affairs of FKF and that the said committee had established that fictitious money transfers amounting to KSh 8.5 million were transferred to private bank account, including that of Mwendwa and no document, was availed to justify the transfers.

FootballMore astonishingly, the preliminary report tabled by the committee led by Michael Kimoko revealed that over KSh 550 million grants which the Sports Ministry had allocated to FKF from 2017 could have been looted.
Kimoko's team also discovered KSh 8.5 million fictitious withdrawals from the FKF's account to federations' president Nick Mwendwa's account between March and May 2021.
