Barcelona star, Lionel Messi, had to face furious fans who hurled insults at him following the Catalan side's heartbreaking exit from the Champions League.

Barcelona gave up a three-goal advantage earned in the first leg of the semi-final fixture against Liverpool to exit the competition.

Liverpool produced a historic comeback at Anfield to dump the La Liga champions out of the European competition.

A group of fans later confronted the Argentine talisman at John Lennon Airport during Barcelona's trip back to Spain, with reports suggesting the angry supporters even hurled insults at the star forward.

In his response, the five-time Ballon d'Or winner is said to have asked the fans what wrong he had committed before a club official stepping in to whisk Messi away.

"What's your problem? What did I do? What did I do wrong?" The Barcelona captain was quoted saying.

Meanwhile, earlier reported that a double brace from Georginio Wijnaldum and Divock Origi inspired Liverpool to a 4-0 win against Barca to progress to the Champions League finals.

The Reds will now battle Tottenham Hotspur for a chance to claim the European title.
